Lest We Forget

Fallen Fire Fighters

Honouring the firefighters who gave their lives in service. Lest We Forget.

Lest We Forget

For a firefighter, the line of duty does not always end when the fire is out. Across Ontario, the leading cause of firefighter line-of-duty death is occupational cancer and illness, the result of a career spent facing smoke, toxins, and unseen hazards on behalf of the community. Others are lost in the moment of the call itself.

The members of BPFFA Local 536 carry forward the memory of every firefighter who gave their life in service. Their courage, their dedication, and their sacrifice are never forgotten.

The Ontario Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial

Every fallen Ontario firefighter is honoured at the Ontario Fallen Fire Fighter Memorial at Queen's Park in Toronto, which carries the names of those lost in the line of duty since 1848. A memorial ceremony is held there each year on the first Sunday of October, bringing together families, departments, and locals from across the province to remember together.

We encourage all members and community supporters to attend, and to learn more through the provincial and national memorial programs below.
